Technically a Pop-up is any web page that opens up in its own new browser window.
Sometimes Pop-ups are used to make navigating websites easier, especially if you are navigating away from the original website you were viewing. An example may be if your banks website will bring up your account information to view in a new window if you click on a certain link. That is just one example of a useful Pop-up.
However, more recently if you hear the term “pop-up”, people are generally referring to the more aggravating, un-solicited pop-up advertisements that appear without you even selecting a link. Pop-ups can be eliminated with the use of a pop-up blocker program. Some browsers now have pop-up blocker functionality. If yours does not, there are some viable stand alone programs that are downloadable for free, or that can be purchased, to help stop pop-ups. Because there are “good” pop-ups you may want to be able to view, you may want to choose a pop-up blocker that allows you to select what sites you would like to be able to view pop-ups from, (ie your banking website, or www.onlinenw.com) Due to the sheer number of third-party programs available, OnlineNW is unable to provide technical support for those applications.
Generally Spyware / Malware are programs that are quietly installed on your computer. The program tracks your web viewing trends, and reports that information to companies that then sell that information.
Some indications of being infected with spyware, or malware could be: your homepage has been changed, your browser crashes frequently, you notice new toolbars in your web browser that you didn't purposely install, and/or you may notice unsolicited pop-ups.
Even if you do not see anything, your system may be infected. It is not uncommon for newer Spyware / Malware programs to not have any outwardly noticeable indications, especially as computer users become more savy. That way they can silently track your surfing behavior.
Anti-Virus protection usually will not provide protection against Spyware / MalwareThere are other utilities you can download to remove Spyware / Malware, and many of these utilities are free. .
